This training program is intended to provide entry level construction workers information about their rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint as well as how to identify, abate, avoid and prevent job related hazards on a construction site. The training covers a variety of construction safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a construction site. Training should emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention, not OSHA standards.

By the end of this training program, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of their rights as construction workers, including knowledge of applicable labor laws and regulations.
  • Recognize and articulate the responsibilities of employers towards their safety and well-being on construction sites.
  • Explain the process of filing a complaint in case of safety violations or hazardous conditions at the workplace.
  • Identify various job-related hazards commonly found on construction sites, and understand their potential risks and consequences.
  • Implement effective strategies to mitigate, avoid, and control hazards to ensure a safer working environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in hazard abatement techniques and preventive measures to reduce the likelihood of accidents and injuries.
  • Differentiate between hazard identification and OSHA standards, focusing on prioritizing hazard prevention over compliance.
  • Apply the knowledge gained during the training to real-life construction scenarios, making informed decisions to enhance safety practices.
  • Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to communicate potential hazards and participate in proactive safety measures.
  • Successfully complete a minimum of 10 hours of instructional training, actively engaging in the learning process and participating in group discussions and activities.

Training sessions will be conducted through Microsoft Team Meetings in an online format, or through LMS or face-to-face delivery. Invitations for the meeting will be distributed one day before the commencement of the training program. Training is either delivered by an accredited training provider or an affiliate training center.

Introduction to OSHA/Local Government Agencies – 8 hours:

  • Overview of OSHA and local government regulations ensuring workplace health and safety.
  • Understanding OSHA's enforcement role, workplace inspections, and educational initiatives.

OSHA Focus Four Hazards – 20 hours:

  • Detailed training on Falls (6 hours), Electrocution (5 hours), Struck-By (5 hours), and Caught-In or Between (4 hours) hazards.
  • Training aimed at heightening awareness of these leading causes of construction fatalities.

Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – 10 hours:

  • Thorough training on selecting, using, and maintaining personal protective equipment (PPE) and lifesaving gear.
  • Emphasis on ensuring optimal protection through proper care and use practices.

Health Hazards in Construction – 12 hours:

  • Addressing health risks like noise, hazard communication, and crystalline silica.
  • Strategies for mitigating these risks and safeguarding workers' health.

Safety Leadership – 14 hours:

  • Developing leadership skills in safety management and fostering a safety-conscious workplace culture.
  • Techniques for conducting effective safety meetings and ensuring compliance.

Accident Investigation and Reporting – 12 hours:

  • Techniques and procedures for conducting thorough accident investigations, identifying root causes, and documenting findings.

Emergency Response Planning – 12 hours:

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive emergency response plans.

This course is designed to help you reach your goals at your own pace and on your schedule. Instructional contact time must be a minimum of 8 hours. Most students intend to complete their studies via online learning within 1 month.

All students must achieve a minimum 70% score to successfully pass the examination which shall be taken online through AISP assigned portal. After successful completion of the examination, students will get their results immediately on their registered emails. This is an open-book exam and students are permitted to use a separate browser window to review course content while taking the exam. If you do not pass the examination you may retake the examination. Students are allowed to take an exam three times within one month. During this time, students should review the course material to improve their understanding.
